ABMS Promotes John D. Mandelbaum to Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs

CHICAGO – February 16, 2012 – The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the organization overseeing the certification of physician specialists in the United States, has promoted John D. Mandelbaum to the position of Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs.

In this role, Mr. Mandelbaum will direct, oversee and manage the legal activities and functions of ABMS. He will continue to provide leadership and comprehensive legal support to ABMS on issues that include contracting, intellectual property, employment, organizational governance and international transactions, as well as strategic planning, legal review of work product, management of the legal budget and coordination with outside legal counsel.

“Ever since he joined ABMS over eight months ago, John has consistently demonstrated his commitment to handling a variety of legal issues and putting the experience that he has gained throughout his career to our benefit,” said Kevin B. Weiss, MD, ABMS President and CEO. “His outstanding contributions and support of our work in areas such as acquisitions, contracting with government agencies and international initiatives make him an invaluable part of our efforts.”

Mr. Mandelbaum most recently served ABMS as Associate General Counsel. Prior to his work at ABMS, he was the Managing Partner in the Chicago and London offices of Husch Blackwell LLP, a leading AmLaw 100 commercial law firm with 650 attorneys and 14 offices in the United States and the United Kingdom. 

Mr. Mandelbaum, a seasoned corporate attorney, has a diverse background in both domestic and international legal affairs, and extensive experience in transactional matters, organizational management and administration.

He received his Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University Law School and a Master of Business Administration from the École Supérieure de Commerce in France.
