Ms. Skarnulis joined ABMS in April 2013 bringing 25 years of financial and operational experience from a variety of sectors. As Chief Operating Officer (COO), she is responsible for the national and international business operations of the organization providing financial, operational and business development leadership in support of ABMS’ mission and strategic initiatives.

Ms. Skarnulis came to ABMS from United Way of Metropolitan Chicago where she served as COO and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Ms. Skarnulis spent four years leading the business operations and strategic business planning of the organization’s 10 year LIVE UNITED 2020 community impact plan across a six county region. During her tenure, she provided transformational leadership and built capacity necessary to deliver on United Way’s community goals by 2020. Ms. Skarnulis streamlined operations, realigned resources and strengthened the organization’s financial foundation by increasing cash reserves, mitigating risk through the sale of high risk long term assets and developing a multi-year pension funding strategy. Serving as the lead executive on the finance, audit and pension committees, she also was a member of United Way World Wide’s Global Financial Issues Committee.

Prior to joining United Way, Ms. Skarnulis lead the financial and business operations of the Arena Football League, an emerging national indoor football league, for nine seasons as CFO. Additionally, she served as a CFO consultant for both established and startup ventures in the Chicago area and spent seven years in a variety of finance roles with increasing responsibility at World Book Publishing. Ms. Skarnulis began her career as an auditor with Grant Thornton.

A Chicago native, she earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Accountancy from Northern Illinois University and is certified as a Certified Public Accountant. In 2012, Ms. Skarnulis was named a finalist for “CFO of the Year” by Financial Executives International. She is civically active and is involved with a number of professional organizations including the Chicago Finance Exchange as a member of its philanthropy committee. Additionally, Ms. Skarnulis serves on the board of, and is treasurer for, United Way of Illinois. She is a member of Women in Sports and Events and has served as a mentor for the organization.
