The ABMS Evidence Library® online tool highlights empirical evidence supporting Board Certification and the ABMS Program for Maintenance of Certification (ABMS MOC®). This easily searchable database incorporates articles that have demonstrated the effectiveness of continuing certification; discuss the need for ongoing assessment and learning, and investigate one or more of the mechanisms used in one of the Member Boards Programs for MOC, as well as other relevant topics. To date, the ABMS Evidence Library database contains more than 200 research study annotations. The research, taken collectively, shows that both Board Certification and MOC are anchored in evidence-based guidelines, national clinical and quality standards, and specialty best practices. The ABMS Evidence Library database advances quality care by serving as a dynamic resource, which is updated routinely, for individuals interested in learning more about the evidence surrounding continuing certification. Many articles support the framework and structure of MOC while others show how Board Certification and MOC participation is a reflection of physician competence and engagement in higher learning.
