Position Summary: The Director of Certification Operations is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the ABPMR certification, assessment and professional standing programs, which includes organizational strategic planning and leadership of staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Contribute to the collective leadership of ABPMR as part of the senior leadership team. Meet regularly with the Executive Director, Director of Operations, and other Leaders, to collaborate and contribute to the overall stewardship of the organizations’ long-term plans, strategic goals, financial performance/budget, work plans, and workplace culture.
  • Ensure successful annual implementation of primary, subspecialty and continuing certification activities, from exam development through administration.
  • Develop and implement strategies to maintain and improve quality of examination items and administration.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures related to professional standing and continuing certification are applied consistently and in accordance with program standards defined by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
  • Collaborate with Communications and Customer Service team to ensure consistent application of organizational policies and practices.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to certification operations staff.
  • Ensure all staff responsible for assessment delivery and/or administration are fully trained in the duties of their positions and cross-trained where applicable for support purposes.
  • Identify and promote development opportunities for staff.
  • Assist in long-term strategic organizational planning and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Provide support, insight, and business intelligence, regarding ongoing business operations, new offerings, and significant organizational changes.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with peer organizations.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience managing certification programs and exam processes, including personnel management. Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams with an ability to build consensus among multiple stakeholders and execute details while keeping big-picture strategy in mind.

Language Ability:
Read, analyze and interpret business, professional, technical or governmental documents. Write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers and the public.

Reasoning Ability:
Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:
Microsoft Office Products.
