The Multi-Specialty Portfolio Program™ (Portfolio Program), a service provided through ABMS, offers all types of health care organizations an opportunity to sponsor quality, performance, and process improvement (QI/PI) initiatives that physicians can participate in and earn Improvement in Medical Practice (Part IV) credit for the ABMS Program for Maintenance of Certification (ABMS MOC®). The Portfolio Program encourages organizational effectiveness and efficiency through team-based efforts that:
- Increase practice-based and clinical efficiencies
- Enhance communication with colleagues, patients, and caregivers
- Create better working relationships within the system of care
A Chance to Improve the Quality of Health Care
There are two ways to become involved in the Portfolio Program.
Portfolio Program Sponsor
Portfolio Program Sponsors create an environment where physician involvement in QI/PI and MOC is supported. Program Sponsor organizations submit their QI/PI initiatives for review according to Portfolio Program guidelines. Once approved, Program Sponsors can invite physician participation and work with the Portfolio Program to award MOC credit upon completion.
Portfolio Program Reviewer
Portfolio Program Reviewers support improvements in the quality of care for patients nationwide by helping to evaluate potential new Portfolio Sponsors and organizational quality improvement initiatives. These volunteer physicians and professionals have expertise in QI/PI, as well as broad knowledge within a specialty. Participation as a Portfolio Program Reviewer can count for MOC credit.
