Michael L. Carius, MD

Dr. Carius, originally from Morton, IL, graduated from Trinity College, Hartford, CT, with a BS and from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Denver, CO, with an MD degree. He completed an internship at the San Diego Naval Regional Medical Center and then spent the next 3 years as a General Medical Officer, first on the USS Piedmont (AD-17) and then at the Naval Regional Medical Center, Naples, Italy. He then transferred to the US Air Force and became a Flight Surgeon, stationed at RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall, England. He returned to the US and completed an Emergency Medicine Residency at USC/LACounty Medical Center. He moved to Connecticut, where he has lived and worked for the past 39 years.

Dr. Carius recently retired after being Chairman of the Departments of Emergency Medicine first at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport, CT, and then at Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk, CT, for a total of 27 years. He continues to work clinically as a Staff Emergency Physician at Bridgeport Hospital, Bridgeport, CT, and at Milford Hospital, Milford, CT. He is currently certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and was previously also certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. Carius is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and Traumatology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He is a Past President of the Connecticut College of Emergency Physicians and of the American College of Emergency Physicians and continues to be active in both. He is a e Delegate to the AMA from the Connecticut State Medical Society. He is a Senior Director of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, which he served as President, and also past director of the American Board of Medical Specialties.
